Cinnamon Bread Lesson from Grandma Rhoda

Grandma Rhoda always made the best cinnamon bread I'd ever had. I never knew how to make it though. I asked her if she would teach me how to make it while she was here and she agreed!! Jeremiah helped us :)

I LOVED this special time with my grandma and Jeremiah.

Cinnamon Bread Recipe:

In a large bowl combine:
8 Cups HOT water
1/2 Cup Crisco Shortening
3 Tab Yeast
1/2 Cup Powdered Milk

Leave until the yeast blooms

Add:
1/2 Cup Sugar
2 Tab salt
Stir

Add approximetaly 19 Cups of flour (until nice doughy consistency - not too sticky)

Knead for 8 minutes.

Put dough in bowl, cover with Warm Damp Cloth - make sure it's in a warm area so it can rise.
Should take about an hour to rise. My house was cool, so we had to turn the burners on on the stove and put the bread close by (not too close or the bowl will melt).

Punch it down - literally punch it about 6 times times, and flip the dough over. Cover it with a warm damp cloth again. Let rise again (approximately an hour).

Dump bread out and cut into 6 pieces.

Cover with warm dish cloth.

Spray 6 bread pans.

Get brown sugar and cinnamon ready.

Roll out on ball at a time with a rolling pin. Keep it pretty thick - maybe 6 inches wide and 12 inches long.

Sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon to liking.
Gently pat the mixture onto bread.

Roll up and put into pan.

Repeat with the other 5 balls of dough.

Cover pans with a warm dish cloth.

Let rise (about an hour)

Bake @ 350* for about 25 minutes.

Thump the bread and if it sounds hollow it's done.
